Career Coach

Hi! I’m Mrs. Tolbert, and I’m honored to be serving in my first year as Oneonta City Schools Career Coach. In my role, I help students discover their strengths, explore future pathways, and gain the skills they need for life after graduation. I guide students through career interest assessments, résumé building, interview preparation, and postsecondary planning, whether their goals include college, technical training, military service, or entering the workforce. I coordinate key events such as College & Career Night, Job Jam, Careers on Wheels, guest speakers, and industry and college tours to connect students with hands-on opportunities and real-world insight. My goal is to empower every student to feel confident, informed, and excited about their next steps.

As Career Coach, I aid students in deciding what pathways they should consider. My ultimate goal is for students to know the answer to “What Happens After I Graduate?”. I break this down into the three ‘Es” – Enroll (College/Trade School), Enlist (Military) or Employed (Workforce). A lot of my Career Mentoring happens on a one-on-one level but can also be done in small groups. Students are prompted multiple times throughout the school year to reach out to me for one-on-one discussions so I can help them brainstorm what pathway might work best for them. This is where I feel my most impactful work happens, and I value the students who take the intiative to speak with me. As always, they can schedule a meeting with me by clicking HERE.

The OHS Student Ambassadors is an honor organization comprised of upperclassmen chosen to represent Oneonta High School to rising/prospective students, parents, dignitaries, and other honored guests as well as the general public. They are a goodwill envoy for the school system assisting with various school activities and community events as needed throughout the year.
Why does Oneonta High have a Student Ambassador program?
1. To build trust with our community and student body - Student Ambassadors add a layer of authenticity to our public events. They are peers of our current Oneonta High student body members and can provide excellent insight into the day-to-day campus experience at OHS.
2. To foster relationships and representation - Student Ambassadors come from a wide range of backgrounds and all have unique strengths in representing Oneonta High to those unfamiliar with our school. Their honesty and unscripted viewpoints help everyone feel more connected to OHS.
3. To provide leadership opportunities for exceptional students - Serving as an OHS Student Ambassador offers a chance to grow leadership and communication skills and inspire other students to take a more active role in representing Oneonta.
How do Student Ambassadors serve Oneonta High School?
Student Ambassadors act as official hosts of Oneonta High any time we have public events or other special occasions throughout the school year. Ambassadors look at situations from a positive perspective and have a strong desire to share that perspective with others. They represent the best OHS has to offer - a dynamic mix of personalities with unique experiences and authentic voices telling their own stories of how they engage with the school community and culture in order to make connections with individuals. The following are ideal traits of a OHS Student Ambassador:
1. Positive attitude and strong moral character
2. Various extracurricular involvements
3. Accepting of others
4. Consistent display of professionalism
5. Excellent communication skills
6. Interest in leadership and outreach
How are Student Ambassadors chosen to represent OHS?
Any student interested in applying for appointment to the Ambassadors must be a Junior or Senior in 2026-2027 and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applications open Friday, February 26th. Completed applications and two teacher recommendations are due to Mrs. Tolbert in Room 106 no later than Thursday, March 26th 2026 by 3:00PM. No exceptions will be made to the due date and time. A round of interviews with Mrs. Tolbert will be scheduled once the application window closes. A list of the students selected for appointment to the organization will be announced via morning announcements and email once interviews are completed.
If you have questions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Tolbert at ntolbert@ocsredskins.com.
